what nose angle?

Keith, I've tried it with black pipe and not been very satisfied.
I suspect the nose angle has a lot to do with success/failure.
I've decided that a very "blunt" angle (like the kind you use to go across the bottom of a bowl) might work better than a "sharp" angle.
What are your thoughts?
(And why, given all your tools, did you use it on that beautiful wood?)
