... use a 4" x 36" vertical belt sander like Jon Siegel does. Replace the belt with a longer belt and add a 180-degree twist to it, and reverse the direction so it runs UP, away from the sharp edge. Add a narrow buffing wheel with a bit of Tripoli to the same shaft, and now you can sharpen and buff the flute in about 7 seconds.
