No, I don't think you're missing anything. I do have one metal handle that accepts different gauges. I hardly ever use it. I mean , it's a darn nice handle, but I prefer a bunch of different gauges with their own handles in a rack. Just pick up what you need and go. (Come to think of , though, where interchangeable tools for a single handle do come in handy is for hollowing.)
