I just epoxy the insert in. the tubing I purchased has a wall thickness of about 3/16" or so. I have also used PVC pipe for the handle and made either aluminum or wood inserts to go in it. Mike Hunter sells some aluminum inserts that work in PVC. They might work in some aluminum handles. I'll bet he would know.
