Making metal turning handles

I would like to make some 12" to 18" x 1" dia metal tool handles. I searched the archives with little luck.
The web yielded little direct info; some information by Cindy Drozda and a video by Cappin Eddie. Anyone have a good technique on making metal tool handles?
