About the only two methods not mentioned is Wally's coating the roughed out bowl with Johnson Paste Wax and alcohol soaking. Out of curiosity what wood did you get? Some like Mesquite won't have much of a cracking problem, Cedar Elm isn't bad and Hackberry is better if left to spalt.
