Glad you walked away unscathed. It may be totalled based upon a book value, but it sounds like it should be fixed at a reasonable cost. It doesn't look like much more than some sheet metal work and maybe a broken tie rod/new shoe.
From where you are, it looks like you were merging on to the highway from the left. I have no idea why any road would make someone merge into the fastest lanes, particularly in California. What I have noticed in my time travelling in California is that people in the left lane tend to be moving faster than I would ever want to set my cruise control for. I don't mind occassional punching it above 80 to pass someone, but starting at 90 and accelerating in traffic...YIKES!
Go get your little white car fixed and don't give it a second though. Perhaps they make a turbo kit for it...The little car that CAN?
