Had a visitor to my shop yesterday, and he took a photo of a soaking piece I showed him. This is about 21" in diameter and has had about 8-10 immersions in Watco Danish Oil (natural). This piece is unusual in that the stain, which is sometimes seen in these trees, is so star-shaped with 'fingers' extending so far from the center. I deliberately chose a section without branches and turned it fresh cut so the stain would be the feature, not the branches. Experience told me that the color would be golden without the stains from spalting. The translucence will be less than shown when the piece is dry and finished, but is thin enough to have extensive translucence when backlit. Spalted bowl from the same tree in the background, with a macadamia nut piece below that split when drying.
