Good suggestion. David Nittmann often uses this technique to turn burls.
He turns a bowl the fit around the burl cap, then uses hot-melt glue to attach the piece. After hollowing, (and doing his famous basket illusion), he then removes the burl from the form... and there are no chucking marks to mar the pointed surface.
