The bottom where a tenon, recess or glue block might be used is riddled with voids. I'm amazed the tail stock center didn't break through into the interior voids, it's like swiss cheese on the bottom and voids running up through the center.

I guess I may have picked the wrong piece of the larger piece of driftwood this was taken from. Could be that there ARE pieces of wood that can't be turned.
