One needs to be very careful when adapting equipment for one use to be used as protection in another application.

Hockey helmets, chainsaw helmets, catchers masks ... are all designed for a specific hazard. Hazards that may or may not be the same as wooturning. It could be very dangerous to get a false sense of security with the wrong gear.
