Turning Archive

When I watch what some people do, I am completely shocked that we aren't hearing a lot more about it. One of the things I am most sensitive to is "the professional". This is typically a successful person who has taken up turning and assumes that he or she (ok, it's ALWAYS a he) is also going to be automatically great at it.
I used to race mountain bikes, and one day at the bike shop, we were introduced to a guy who was a stock broker. He seemed like a nice guy, and we decided to ask him to join us on our next group ride. First time on the trail, he was showing off and had some skills, but shouldn't have been going so fast... because trees win the battle if you run into them. Broken clavicle.
