Finials and pulls often look like After Thought additions to a piece. Getting them to not look like a Stuck On can be disquised with a bead or groove - but the flow from piece to finial or pull gets interrupted. If you turn a Stuck On in order to blend it into what it's on, you end up with a delicate knife edge - at best, or loose some of it while doing the blending.

Here's a way to blend a finial / pull to a piece. Not the most elegant example - but it illustrates the method.
