Shopping in Japan?

>Not in person, unfortunately...

A colleague of mine who's on parental leave is leaving next week for Japan to show the new baby to the in-laws (his wife is Japanese). He's going to Nagoya for five weeks.

When he told me that last night at the pub (GO HABS GO!), I thought this could be an opportunity to get myself some Japanese tools through him. I'm thinking planes in particular.

Now I have some questions, like:

- Is it worth it? I mean, are prices much better than buying from Canada/US for a given quality?
- How good are dealers in Japan into steering the customer to the right choice? My colleague doesn't have much woodworking knowledge.
- Does anyone know of dealers in Nagoya? Any recommendations? Addresses?

Thanks in advance,

DC
