>Don't know if it's used anymore but there's a such a thing as a fox-wedge tenon. Using a special bit the hole is reamed from the inside (like a dovetail), the tenon is kerfed and a wedge is inserted partly. Driving the leg in the hole tighten things up.

Never done it or even seen it done, but I would assume this is a fussy joint to make, which probably explains why it is not common.
