Bill,

You'll be a hero if you save $1,200 worth of appliance replacement. But if I may be so bold, washing machine wrestling is not good right in here. It's 40 or 50 lb, but there ain't a good way to get hold of it, and get your legs under it. Whirlpool is a good brand of washer IME.

Topic for the group: Have you replaced a water heater recently? I've been looking at it. But heaters have changed since I last bought one. The GE/Rheem line and the Whirlpool line have this automatic gas-shutoff circuitry. And I am seeing a good many on-line war stories from folks who are reporting that their brand new washing machine with all the latest and greatest won't turn on--or else keeps shutting down--because the gas-shutoff feature has decided to shut things down. Also, it appears that when that circuitry trips, there is no reset: you're looking at a substantial repair bill or else outright replacement of the water heater.

Well, maybe these problems are a tiny minority of the installed units, but thought I would ask about the experience of the group.
