Go to this link and towards the bottom you'll see how I store my J-tools. Those are the ones that aren't stuffed in drawers and cabinets. The backing board behind the chisels is 3/4" apple-ply. I routed some grooves and installed aluminum channel. The tool holders have bolts through them where the bolt head rides in the aluminum channels. That way I can configure the tool holders anywhere I want and angle them any way I want. Can't remember where I got that idea from, but I can't claim I thought it up all by myself.
The tool holder themselves have dowels sticking out on which the tools rest.
It's not the best way to store chisels because if you're not careful you can knock them off. Longer dowels help, but....
The advantage to this was it was really quick to make and put up.
