>The two chisel boxes don't go inside the main box. They sit on top as shown in the first photo. So, it's a stack of three boxes; main box and two chisel boxes. The layout tools reside on the underside of the main box's lid. So, when the lid is on they are inside and not visible. The lid is trapped by the top cross members on each end. You remove the lid by sliding it to the right and lifting up on the left side.
This picture better illustrates how they stack.
Those two strips tacked onto the lid of the middle box fit into the bottom recess of the top (smaller) chisel box to prevent it from sliding off as I'm carrying the stack. Yes, it can be heavy at times....
