OT - UHMW plastic questions

>Did the vacuum cleaner repair today, using a flat furniture glide 2-1/2" in diameter fastened to two layers of 1x pine. Glides well, but it can't climb transitions, like onto a rug.

I'm thinking of finding the maple rolling pin I scrounged somewhere and cutting a part-circle to use in place of one layer of pine, then putting UHMW plastic strips on it.

I've never even seen this material, much less used it. Is it resistant to picking up grit? Does the adhesive used on the strips hold well over time?
