Marv....... Northern California Lake Co.
>We call em woodpeckers of course. No doubt there is a scientific name for them, but woodpecker works for me. Birds don't live forever, some of them die of old age. When you see a dead bird, it's not always due to someone killing them. That particular type woodpecker however will sit in the middle of a road and isn't prone to immediately fly away like most other birds as a car approaches and often times gets run over or will wait just a little too long and will be hit by the car. When I first moved to lake county, 32 years ago, the woodpecker population was quite large. It seems that the large black crow or raven is taking over and the number of woodpeckers are deminishing.
I am nice to birds along with all wild life around me here including black bears. I'm nice by not feeding them and causing them to depend on humans. They get along just fine without my help, far better than I could if I tried to make a living out there in the wild.
Ok, I gotta git back ta working some "regular" handsaws. I have some reshaping of handles and custom wheating carving ta do.
