>Wonder why one would need a brace to do that kind of work. My feeling about the lower one is that it was modified out of an existing tool. If you are in Maine, then you are in tool barn country, find a flat blade deal that goes in a brace, some kind of spade drill, preferably one that is fairly short, then just a few second with a hack saw or grinder and Bob's your uncle.
