I agree that the left side of the screen should stay put. Now only the menu stays put, and the Wood Central logo as well as the ad disappears as soon as I scroll down (pretty well immediately). This doesn't change much for me, but Wood Cetnral and the major sponsor don't benefit from it at all.
Anothre feature that is slightly annoying and should be tweaked: when I click "back" after reading a message, the screen returns to the top of the hand tools page. It should, like in the old format, return to where I left off, i.e. to the thread I am reading. When it returns to the top I have to find the thread again after each message, which can be quite time-consuming (I prefer to click back after each message, not follow the thread on the links at the bottom of a message).
