Subject:
Making Hand Planes

Stephen Shepherd in the State of Deseret
>Now hand planes as far as I am concerned are quite difficult to make using traditional methods (non-krenov). I have only attempted it a few times and without all of the proper plane maker's tools it is not an easy task.

I have however seen few attempts to make the European (particularly French) style of joiners planes. I have built several in the past and am about to make a few joint planes that I would like to have, but can not find any old examples.

The advantage of the side wedge is that the slot for the iron and wedge can be cut with a handsaw, piece of cake. I might even attempt a coachmaker's plow.
