Treddle lathes at MAFC

>Here are the pictures of the 2 lathes I saw at the Museum of American Frontier Culture. I don't know much about lathes, so I can't really describe what I was looking at there. I do like how actually simple most of the machines look. When I was housesitting (my vacation before going to the museum) I had the chance to catch some Roy Underhill episodes and I was fascinated by how easy most of the manual powered machines are built. I wouldn't mind trying to build my own manual powered lathe someday. It looks like it'd be a fun project.
