I like the look of trestles also. I really can't give a good argument for them on a workbench, I am none to sure where they come from. They probably create problems if the floor is uneven, though they sell material for evening floors, and that would be a very good idea for the foundation of a workbench.

I don't think you will find the new base skids around all that much, it is just a mater of weight. I find the tresle base, properly made, particularly with wedges, to be about as rack free as anything can be. It also excells at providing the odd post for heavy pounding, something one would not get with a box construction.
