>I used to sometimes break my pencils into short stubs, so that they'd fit in my pocket or belt without injury, but also so that the shop annoyance wouldn't steal them (he liked new pencils).

I've also known guys to paint their tools with some ugly color paint- thats not news to anyone- but your post did bring to mind a nice new LN plane with a healthy splattering of yellow or green spray paint! Ugh!
