>I was reviewing Chris Schwarz's video "Coarse, Medium and Fine" a little while ago (I'll be posting a review in our video department next week if all goes according to plan) and the gist of it was about efficiencies of using coarser tools for heavier stock removal and working up to the finer tools for the last passes. In the case of removing a half an inch from a door, if it had been me, I think I would have lopped off 7/16" or so with a bowsaw (this is the hand tools forum -- no jigsaws or skilsaws, right?) and then used the plane to clean up and flatten the last sixteenth or so.

I don't know if it's laziness or old age. :-) I do know the pleasure of planing to your heart's content just for the sake of doing it. I think this is what keeps a lot of galoots going....

Cheers,
