A friend of mine did some tests (very limited--not too scientific) with an 8000 synthetic water stone (King I believe, although I forget exactly) and a Honyama natural stone, and the Honyama gave a cloudy (frosty) surface, apparently less polished than the waterstone, but it also gave a sharper edge (as observed with an Intel microsocope).
