With a Bedrock, the bedding between frog and base is solid. As you can see with the Sargent, as the frog is moved forward, there is more and more of an air gap between frog and base near the blade.
I have a #5 size (414) and #6 (418) size Sargent VBM and I think they are good users. I have to hold back on some of my comments because I suspect some frankenplane tampering with mine. Heckel's book aside, I think they're also generally very good value.
