The diving thing is interesting - it's obviously keyed to a certain thickness or angle (Since we adjust correction between mallet strikes with a straight chisel and how much correction depends on how deep the cut, how thick the cut and how hard we're going to hit a chisel. Heavier means more dive).
The rounded chisels will dive a bit if you allow them, but the shape partially corrects, or feels to and it's a bit more thoughtless and less fiddling. It'd never fly with modern woodworkers who watch videos re: paring blocks and such, though.
But it's interesting to experiment with. It's also a *very* natural shape to forge, just a little bit of curvature.
