A shower of sparks is the mechanism of removing the heat of work of the abrasive on the steel. If the abrasive particle is sharp and milling out shavings, as opposed to plowing without removing shavings, a substantial amount of the heat leave with the shaving. A shower of sparks means the grinding material is sharp and staying sharp.
