Been meaning to tell you, and this is a good place. At your suggestion, I got one of the Great Eastern Cutlery pocket knives—not the Tidioute, the other brand. 1095 as you know. Improved Trapper, which has a Wharncliffe blade.

Anyway, to your point, I’ve noticed a huge difference in edge-holding since I’ve been buffing as a last sharpening step. Of course, when you dig planting holes with it, it’s back to the 1000g starter stone, but just ordinary twig cutting, opening amazon boxes, and carving the tinfoil out of tylenol bottles—sharpening is long-ladting if buffed.
