As I understand the problem,wear on the flat side rounds over the edge. You are proposing eliminating the rounding by abrading the flat side. The alternative and what I think I do is to abrade back the edge to eliminate the wear. Is that not what the burr is all about? You abrade back the tip until this rounding on the back side is gone as evidenced by the burr rolling up on the back side. If I can't be rid of the burr I interpret the situation as I have not abraded the bevel enough. I abrade away on the bevel to move back the tip to be rid of the rounding.
