Don't confuse the lighting discussion to think that lighting is only important if you are taking pictures. There is something about reflected light from a metal surface that makes observing/imaging it difficult. By diddling with his light source Winston is getting better observation of the metal surface than I was getting with all the lighting options that come on a Nikon general purpose biological scope. The metallurgical scope I used has some special kind of lighting that made observing, or imaging, the surface of metal more accurate.
