The faster compound makes buffing sort of an afterthought, and the edge is really strong. Clearance is only a little bit less perfect. For chisels, the fast compound is much nicer to use.

I can't imagine them allowing a western plane with a buffer at kzerou-kai competitions!! Actually, doing this by hand is probably still best because you can leave the biting edge, but day to day, this is a whole lot more practical and takes about a third of the time (this being the really fine compound wheel and honing off most of the wire edge so that the treated edge is only tiny).
