This is an older bone colored translucent arkansas stone. It's a wonderful stone, but I don't use it much, so it was ripe for experimenting.
Larry Williams slurries his trans ark with what may be a 220 grit DMT in his moulding plane video, and i know he's not the only one. IT does make an arkansas stone cut a lot faster. I didn't have the heart to go that coarse, so I used the worn 400 grit side on a chinese diamond hone. I don't know if this would become much more aggressive looking with a coarser diamond hone, but I was surprised how fine the edge is despite the slurry. The stone is fast cutting, and while it's not any finer than the black dan's stone, a trans white or bone colored stone, does let you see the amount of metal removal much more clearly.
note the abrasions are more orderly because of the stronger cutting, but the edge itself is still smooth and even.
I've flattened trans and black stones with a 220 grit DMT in the past and they are more aggressive than this, but by how much, not sure. I don't have the urge to scuff the surface of this stone a whole lot.
The washita stays at this cutting power pretty much all the time and finishes as finely (the finer ones), which negates the value of following up on this much further (it's kind of a nuisance to abrade the surface if it's not needed).
