It's hard no to find success with this method whether you buff, strop or finish on a fine natural. The very tip of the convex edge you create on the buffing wheel is close to 50 degrees so of course it will be long lasting. If you create the tiny secondary 50 degree bevel on a strop or fine natural stone you will get the same result.
