60 strokes on heavily saturated leather to get to this point:

(buffed chisel on right - both same brand from same set)

The light situation makes both strips look wider than the are, and I cropped this out of a bigger picture, so it didn't turn out as good as hoped. The buffed strip with better clarity is slightly larger.

Wire edge with more abrasive left much faster, but getting the stripe to be appreciable in small size was still a lot of work, 60 firm strokes, two hands.

Buffed chisel is mildly sharper paring despite the bigger buffed area, but they're close in sharpness. Didn't pound maple but would expect both to hold up.
