Now I’m not sure I understand what ‘riding the bevel’ means. I had thought it meant (1) bevel somewhat down in the cut, (2) face of the chisel facing the chip, (3) at the strike, bevel being down forces the chisel face forward, shearing the side walls and creating the chip. Chisel being relieved in its depth eases the shearing action of the face of the chisel.
Is this right or exactly wrong?
