It's definitely possible that it's the blade. I've had issues with that blade chipping in the past.
Now that I think of it, I do have another PM-V11 plane blade which I've been using for a few months, and I haven't noticed any chipping issues with it. I'll try that one out, but that means more time at the grinder to lower the bevel angle.
If it is indeed that one blade that's chippy, I wonder if/how I'd be able to convince Lee Valley to replace it.
