It's funny -- when I made my order from McMaster-Carr, I thought about getting the red stuff because it was 0.5 micron, but then I didn't because I figured that iron oxide might not be effective for hardened steel tools. Turns out that the red bar is made of something that's actually more useful than what they say it's made of.
