That works as well as anything discussed Bill. And I'll bet the drawers don't want to pivot as easily as with a single point either. Good on you.
Even though it can be tapped down flush, I too am reluctant to chop a 2x2 or 3x3 hole in my bench top. Call me silly, but that just personal preference. Clamps and a board work well enough.
