I have some planes from a relative that was a carpenter? in the late 1800's. They are all long and longer planes. The ones you all show are long and longer.

Now days many find a block plane, as well as 3's and 4's essential to their woodworking. Was something equivalent to a block plane, and short planes, made/used back then? Are they made now, by you all? If not, why not? Anything else of interest on the topic.
