The comments about maker's marks in the last thread reminded me to do this. For those who don't know, the new edition of British planemakers since 1700 is now out, retitled Goodman's British Planemakers. For anyone curious about how maker's marks looked in the 18th/19th centuries, there are probably a hundred or so photos. Also lots of good sketches showing the evolution of chamfers, gouge cuts, and finials from roughly 1680-1880. And lots more.
