David Weaver
my wheel has about 8 stitches in it. I believe that it's probably got more backbone with the abrasive and should be able to be used at less angle increase....but I'm just guessing.
One of the first things I tried years ago was a pair of felt buffs (and they were stiffer in the other direction). I found them difficult to use because they had too much backbone and would really round an edge fast. Same with leather at high speed - just too capable of honing too fast.
It may be the case that a higher stitch wheel is a sweet spot, and it just may be getting used to mine.
I'd bet finding the middle isn't far off for you, and maybe with that wheel (I hate to advocate purchasing to experiment).
It's interesting just how fine the surface is on the buff, though (as you're showing) it's devoid of scratches big enough to be seen visibly.
