Show me the post talking about this in context. Using poor quality chisels without the loss of sharpness (or added sharpness) and no extra resistance penetrating wood.
I haven't seen it and doubt at this point that you could spend 15 minutes and manage to do it, but it's easy being a keyboard jockey.
I've generally seen people use something like this on a paper wheel and bare leather, but folks are showing chisels brightly polished from end to end and with a blunt feel.
Certainly, the whole thing is nowhere near a new idea. For at least 75 years, systems have been provided for razors that require zero introduction of a razor to a stone. Dovo still sells a paste system.
And one of the things that egged me on with gouges is that randall rosenthal mentioned that he sharpens his gouges only with a buffer.
The trick is to make it better than not using it without doing something difficult or expensive.
In the case of razors, razors work better if they are stoned and stropped, but enough people historically couldn't figure it out or didn't want to, and the paste setup is still available. A razor is usable off of the pastes, but it's worse.
This is better.
