In the plane weight thread, David talked about fitting the wedge of wooden planes and the advantages of single and double iron planes.
I found his post very interesting since I have a Mathieson coffin smoother that works really well for me. In examining the plane I noted how well it was made.
The wedge and the abutments are well matched, note the multiple planes cut on cheek of the throat. When new, the fit would have been perfect.
This type of work is so inspiring that I decided to try to make my own wooden planes.
