I took a nine day Sellers course

The sharpening method focused on a full convex bevel for both plane irons and chisels.

The upshot of this approach was that it was easy to remember, could be done freehand and left a polished surface gor shavings to glide over.

No mention of cutting angles, probably because there was so much ground to cover.

The only admonition was to start each session from the coarsest grit, lest the cutting angle become too steep. It was mentioned in passing that stropping could refresh a "tired" edge but if you had the iron in hand it was only a few minutes to run through all the stones.

I think DW's observation that a cotton buff can do much of this in seconds is remarkable.

I'm experimenting with a ddburting wheel and buff, to mixed results.

More often, I still need two stones and a strop to get good results.
