thoughts *PIC*

This idea is so new here I think it safe to say that the optimization of this bevel has not been explored, nor ways to achieve it. Some thoughts:

If dulling through micro chipping or folding is not a problem with whatever one is currently doing the concept of the Weaver Bevel should be ignored.

David and I have discussed this concept off line for a while and like anyone else the question is how to achieve it. I wondered about achieving it with a leather strop only. David thought just the strop would be slow, but then we don't know if 0.005" is good enough or 0.020" is necessary, or that the answer may depend on a lot else.

David convinced me to at least begin the bevel with the last "stone" I used for sharpening, in my case 1 micron diamond on cast iron. I added some passes on the strop for good measure. This is the first and only preparation I have tried.

At this point this is not a technique ready to advertise to novices. It needs to be fleshed out by people annoyed by chisel dulling as a result of folding and chipping at the chisel tip as illustrated in this picture of a Sorby edge after a dovetail job.
