A good friend of mine, a gifted wood carver, used a similar method on his carving chisels, honing until sharp, then a few seconds on a green compound charged, hard felt wheel on his grinder. They were always spectacularly sharp, but he didn’t care at all if the back of the chisel wasn’t flat.
